During this workshop, you will further your understanding of the basics, core principles and practices of the ACT model through discussions and experiential exercises. The theoretical underpinnings of ACT – Relational Frame Theory – will be explained, and a comparison of working with function over form will be discussed. In addition, using ACT in the group setting will be explored with respect to advantages and challenges, and group exercises will be demonstrated.

M. Joann Wright, Ph.D. is currently the Director of ACT Services and Research Curator for DASC. Joann is passionate about the Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) model. Joann's loves are in teaching and delivering ACT in order to help people reduce the suffering in their lives. To that end, she has co-authored two ACT books aimed at assisting other therapists with their ACT work; Learning ACT for Group Treatment: An Acceptance and Commitment Therapy Skills Training Manual for Therapists (Westrup & Wright, 2017) and Experiencing ACT from the Inside Out: A Self-Practice/Self-Reflection Workbook for Therapists (Tirch, Silberstein-Tirch, Codd, Brock & Wright, 2019). Joann is an Association of Contextual and Behavioral Sciences (ACBS) Fellow, she is the Vice President for the Board of the ACBS Foundation, and has been granted the distinction of Peer-Reviewed ACT Trainer.
